The Grace family comes together to serve as Christ’s hands and feet during the annual Grace Reaching Out Weekend (GROW), which takes place sometime in the spring.

Family Missions Night #2 editedIn 2016, adults, teens and children kicked off the weekend on Friday evening with a potluck dinner and clothes sorting event for Note in the Pocket, a Raleigh non-profit that provides clothing to homeless and impoverished school children. The group had fun working together to sort about 50 bags of clothes that had been donated at Grace the previous weeks.

On Saturday about 60 adults and teens spread throughout the region to tackle several different projects: planting flowers at Murdoch Developmental Center in Butner; processing donations at North Raleigh Ministries; performing home repairs for Habitat for Humanity, preparing and delivering bag lunches for Brown Bag Ministry; creating “upcycled” beads to support Hearts and Hands for Haiti; and walking to defeat ALS.

The weekend of service continued on Sunday with a canned food drive. More than 300 non-perishable items were collected; these will help to replenish North Raleigh Ministries’ food pantry.

GROW came to a fulfilling conclusion on Monday when eight foursomes played in the Wheels4Hope charity golf event and a group from Grace was able to take part in a multi-car blessing. Grace sponsored the repairs on a beautiful Buick LeSabre for Sheree C. and her two children (see photo and read more about Sheree at right).

Stay tuned for details on GROW 2017!

Sheree, a formerly homeless mom of two, was referred to Wheels4Hope to purchase a program car for $500 once she and her children moved into their own place. Grace funded the repairs for the car Sheree was thrilled to receive at the W4H annual golf event on April 25. Owning a car will enable Sheree to work more hours,  go back to school, take her children to appointments more easily, and see more of our beautiful state!
